We stayed at Windy Hill March 31-April 5 2007. The resort lives up to its name--even in the hottest weather there is a nice, cooling breeze.

All in all, there are not enough good things to say about Windy Hill and the people there. They take pride in running a top notch business, and the quality and service they put out is worth going back to. We will be seeing a lot more of Windy Hill in years to come.

Windy Hill Resort is Located in the Cayo District of Western Belize, just west of
San Ignacio. The resort rests on a hillside that commands a fine view
of the Macal and Belize River Valleys and has the jungle at its back
door. The resort is owned and operated by Bobby and Lourdes Hales, who live on site.
As with most successes, there is always a story behind the story. This
one began in 1968 in Louisiana where Bob met Lourdes (a Belizean
native) who was attending Tulane University in New Orleans. Bob knew a
good thing when he saw it, and soon proposed marriage. The couple came
to Belize for their wedding and honeymoon. Bob fell in love with Belize
and realized that their future was here. He made a quick trip home,
sold everything and returned to his new home.
In 1975, Bob and Lourdes bought the property that is now Windy Hill
Resort and named it Graceland Ranch. As tourism in Belize was just
starting to grow, they saw a good future in this new industry and in
1987 opened Windy Hill Resort for business with three cottages. More
were added as they could afford them. The resort now consists of 25
private cottages, dining room, lounge, recreation room, fitness center,
gift shop, swimming pool and equestrian center. The resort is strategically located
right in the center of the greatest tour destinations that Belize has
to offer; including Maya ruins, caves, rain forests, and jungle rivers.
Bob and Lourdes have one daughter, Janel, and three sons, Robert,
Joseph, and John Paul. The family all live on site or very close by. Six
grand-daughters and one grand-son are now the third generation at Windy
Hill.
