from Placencia to

Day 1 AIRPORT/SAN IGNACIO RESORT HOTEL -
driving time 1 ½ to 2 hrs
You will be met at the airport by your birding guide and transferred to San Ignacio Resort Hotel located in San Ignacio Town in the Cayo District. On the way, there will be opportunities for birding, as we drive through a number of habitats such as, mangrove-swamps, pine-savannahs and finally jungle.
After a short orientation, check into you accommodations
at San Ignacio Resort Hotel.
Day 2 MACAL
RIVER CANOEING
Morning /
Pre-breakfast bird-walk on the grounds at Cahal Pech Archeological site. Some of the birds
we hope to see include Red-legged Honeycreepers, Tanagers, Tityras, Parrots and Parakeets.
Easy morning to hang out explore on your own after a late breakfast.
Afternoon /
Canoeing on the Macal River - We will be shuttled
12 miles upstream and we will float down by canoe to the resort. While canoeing
we have the chance to see Neotropic Cormorants, Mangrove Swallows, Kingfishers, Gray-necked
Wood Rails and other wildlife that frequent the riverbanks. We often see
large iguanas sunning themselves on the rocks and in trees. We arrive back
at SAN IGNACIO RESORT HOTEL before dark.
Day 3 - MOUNTAIN
PINE RIDGE
Morning / Afternoon
After an early breakfast we depart for the Mountain
Pine Ridge a 300 square mile reserve. Stops will be made along the way
as birding opportunities presents themselves and at specific known birding
sites such as 1,000 ft falls.
Here we have the opportunity to see Yellow-faced
Grassquits, Rufous-capped Warblers, Acorn
Woodpeckers, Yellow-backed Orioles and
Golden-hooded Tanagers. There is a strong possibility
of seeing the Orange-breasted falcon and king
vultures by 1,000 ft falls (Hidden valley
Falls). These falcons live on the outcropping. Black-headed
Siskins can often be seen flying in flocks.
Day 4 - El
PILAR
Morning /
Free to hang out at the Village, Cahal Pech Archeological site or San Ignacio Town.
Afternoon /
Visit to El Pilar Archeological site a Maya site a flora and fauna
reserve. It is excellent for birding, hiking, and provides an insight to Belize's
sub-tropical forests. We will make stops along the way to view such birds as Collared
Manakins, Honeycreepers and an array of flycatchers etc.
Return to SAN IGNACIO RESORT HOTEL accommodations after enjoying a Cayo sunset.
Day 5 - BlUE
HOLE/ GREEN PARROT BEACH HOUSES / PLACENCIA
Morning /
Transfer to Placencia with a stop at the Blue Hole
National Park for a few hrs. The Blue Hole has a number of trails to hike
within the park. Some of the more unusual birds known to this area includes
the White Hawk, Spotted-Wood Quail, Crested Guans, Lovely
Cotinga, Keel-Billed Toucans, Red-Legged Honey Creepers,
and Slaty-tailed Trogons.
Afternoon /
We check into our accommodations at Green Parrot Beach Houses . After a short orientation, we are free to explore the beach,
lagoon and small village of Placencia.
DAYS 6 & 7 - GREEN PARROT BEACH HOUSES
Two days at GREEN PARROT BEACH HOUSES and includes Snorkeling trip to
Laughing Bird Caye.
Additional Options (at additional cost for persons
that elect)
Excursions are available to ....
DAY 8 – GREEN PARROT / BELIZE CITY /
Morning transfer to Placencia airstrip for flight
back to Belize International for your return
flight home or onward destination.
Additional tours are available eg. Caving, Maya
