was a Major Maya Ceremonial Center ....
Cahal Pech's late pre-classic temples
and two separate ball courts display fine examples of
Maya craftsmanship, suggesting this site was a hilltop
residence of royalty and their cadre.
800 AD, the site consists of 34
structures on two acres. Cahal Pech sits within a serene jungle-type environment, which is home to many colorful birds and exotic plants, which also makes it a good place to enjoy Birding.
A visitors' center contains artifacts
and a reconstructed model of the site. The center is open Monday through Saturday. Small admission fees to enter the site and museum.
Getting There ....
It's a 15-20
minute uphill walk or an inexpensive cab ride from from
downtown area in San Ignacio.
