Mountain Bike Belize!
Be an ecotourist in Belize's stunning natural paradise
- In a socially, environmentally, and physically responsible
manner.
Support the budding mountain-bike-sport amongst Belizean
youths, and support appropriate local conservation efforts.
HERE'S WHAT YOU GET....
Tours typically include 3 to 6 hours
of riding daily. We can go hardcore along
some roller coaster, gravel routes that weave through Belize's Maya Mountain
outback. Or, we can take it easy along narrow, rainforest-shaded logging trails,
keeping a keen eye out for exotic birds and wildlife, and rivers that we can
stop and take a swim in. You decide.
We provide a 4 x 4 support vehicle to transport extra
bikes, maintenance equipment, camping gear and luggage,
and to serve as an emergence evacuation vehicle in case
of an accident. We also provide a guide with his own bike
and maintenance tools that will ride with you. And we provide
mountain bikes if you're not bringing your own, (recommended
if you're into fancier equipment than what we have).
Days wind up at a farm, with a few
extra rooms, someone's house, or a family-run
campground. We eat a home cooked meal and get a glimpse
of how Belizean families really live. By patronizing "non-resorts" we
give the small farmers a reason to keep their land beautiful,
and a provide a way for them to generate income without
having to chop down all of their forests for subsistence
farming. By eating home cooked meals, we put a little
cash in Mom's pocket, and treat ourselves to only the
best.
By mid-morning we take off again. Or if you're in need
of it, we take a rest day. Rest days come in handy, because
they can also be used to do things other than biking, or
resting. Farmers, or the lady of the house, (for a small
contribution) are almost always happy to show you around
their place, take you to a cave that only they know about,
take you fishing for tomorrow's meal, take you canoeing. and
the list goes on. When you're "rested" enough, we take
off again, at an easy pace, or jamming, (you decide!) and
check out another little piece of Belize, intimately, and
appropriately. But enough with the literature. Write us.
Tell us your needs and your budget and we'll put together
a program for you that you'll love and never forget.
