Travel Learning - Mostly Maya ....

Spend 9 days immersing yourselves in Mayan history and culture, learn about how the Maya people live today by visiting a present day Mayan village.

Itinerary includes:

  • Accommodation with duPlooy’s Jungle Lodge
  • Meals starting with dinner the first night and ending with breakfast on departure day.
  • Scheduled tours and activities
  • Entrances to sites, border fees and site-specific guides where required
  • Use of classroom with power point capability

A licensed tour guide will accompany you throughout your trip from greeting you at the airport to dropping you off when you depart.

TOTAL COST Per Student - $1325.00 double occupancy
One professor per 10 paying students - Complimentary

NOTE - A Deposit of $200 per person is required to confirm; with the balance due 30 days prior to arrival.

ITINERARY

Day 1 – Your guide will meet you at the airport in Belize City for your transfer to duPlooy's Jungle Lodge. If time permits, stop en route at the Belize Zoo. Orientation and Dinner.

Day 2 – Ease into your trip with a guided tour of Belize Botanic Gardens with an emphasis on useful and medicinal plants used by the Maya.

Learn to thatch on BBG’s demonstration project, enjoy a lunch of typical Mayan food in the garden’s Maya area, try your hand at tortilla and tamale making. Evening Archaeology lecture by a local archaeologist in BBG’s Visitors’ Center.

Day 3 – After breakfast head for Caracol where your guide will take you through one of the Maya world’s most important sites. Discover how members of this ancient culture lived. Learn a few Mayan words from your Mayan guide. Picnic at the ruins and stop on the way back to duPlooy’s for a cooling swim in the cascades of the Rio On in the Mountain Pine Ridge.

Day 4 – Canoe the Macal River to San Ignacio town, look around the town, eat lunch in a local restaurant and visit nearby Cahal Pech and Xunantunich Maya sites, before returning to duPlooy’s.

Day 5 - Today's travels take you across the border into Guatemala where an hour's drive will take you to Yaxha. After a guided tour of this extensive site, continue on to Tikal where you will spend the night.

Day 6 – Have a morning tour of Tikal before returning to Belize and duPlooy's. Stop at El Remate to shop for tipico items and eat lunch.

Day 7 – Free day to explore duPlooy's and the adjacent Belize Botanic Gardens. Use of trails, canoes, inner tubes are included.

Or choose to visit Actun Tunichil Mucknal (ATM Cave)

NOTE - For ATM add $100 (includes entrance fee). The whole group does not have to go on this trip and this extra, optional tour, is not included in the price.

Day 8 – Today leave early to visit Lamanai ruins just north of Belize City, spend the night at the community Community Baboon Sanctuary in Burrell Boom where you are guaranteed monkey sitings. We call these monkeys baboons, however they are really howler monkeys and some of the few remaining in Belize.

Day 9 – Return to the airport for your trip home.
