This popular itinerary has been used successfully for several years by colleges who bring their own professors to conduct a 2-week Interim Studies course ....
Itinerary includes:
- RT Air fare between cities serving Belize (Atlanta, Charlotte, Dallas, Houston, or Miami)
- Accommodation with duPlooy’s Jungle Lodge, Tikal Jungle Lodge
and IZE on South Water Caye
- Meals at all locations starting with dinner the first night and ending with breakfast on departure day.
- Scheduled tours and activities
- Entrances to sites, border fees and site-specific guides where required
- Use of classroom with power point capability
A licensed tour guide will accompany you throughout your trip from greeting you at the airport to dropping you off when you depart.
TOTAL COST Per Student - $2,690.00
One professor per 10 paying students - $700.00
NOTE - A Deposit of $200 per person is required to confirm; with the balance due 30 days prior to arrival.
Day 1 – Your guide will meet you at the airport in Belize City for your transfer to duPlooy's Jungle Lodge. If time permits, stop en route at the Community Baboon Sanctuary.
Orientation and Dinner.
Day 2 – Join your guide on duPlooy's deck for complimentary coffee and a chance to take a look at some of the exotic birds that visit our feeder - 6:30-7:30. (every morning, optional)
After breakfast take a guided Healer's Walk in adjacent
Belize Botanic Gardens, where you will learn some of the local ethnobotany. After your walk make your lunch of tamales at the Maya House.
Spend the afternoon in the classroom or swimming, canoeing or tubing on the Macal River.
Day 3 - Drive through an Amish community to Barton Creek Cave;
Glide through a remote
underground water cave system in a canoe equipped
with a powerful
spotlights.
After a picnic lunch, visit Green Hills Butterfly Ranch.
and tour the research center. There are
more than 25 species of butterflies on display in the
breeding facility and landscaped flight area.
End your day with a refreshing swim in exotic Big Rock falls in
the Mountain Pine Ridge.
Days 4 - After breakfast leave for 2 nights in Guatemala. After going through the border your first stop will be at Yaxhá , a Maya archeological site. After your tour of the site, eat lunch and shop for tipico items at El Remate before going to Tikal and settling in for the night.
Day 5 - A morning tour of the Tikal site with the afternoon free to wander around the site on your own. The park abounds with birds and small animals which you may have missed when absorbed in Mayan history.
Day 6 - After breakfast return to Belize for an afternoon of classes or just enjoying the trails in Belize Botanic Gardens, swimming, tubing or canoeing in the Macal River
Day 7 -
Canoe to San Ignacio Town, (you can arrange this for a Saturday, market day), and eat lunch in a local restaurant. After lunch visit the Green Iguana Project at the San Ignacio Rersort Hotel, returning to duPlooy's around 4pm.
Day 8 – Visit Bermudian Landing and the Community Baboon Sanctuary. In Belize we call Howler Monkeys Baboons. Drive to a local restaurant for an early dinner and at 6:30 have a nocturnal tour of the Belize Zoo, returning to duPlooy's around 10pm.
Day 9 – Visit San Antonio Village with a stop at the Women's Co-op on the way. Tour the farm, try you hand at making pottery and talk to the local women who run one of the most successful co-ops in Belize. Eat lunch with a local family and then be dropped off on the side of the Macal River to tube back to duPlooy's.
Day 10 – Nothing to do today except enjoy the property. If you would like to try a horseback ride, just let the office staff know. The price is not included.
Day 11 – Transfer to Dangriga for a short boat trip to IZE on South Water Caye
Day 11,12,13 – IZE – Morning and afternoon snorkel trips with one evening reef ecology presentation
Day 14 – Boat back to Dangriga to overnight at Pelican Beach Resort and enjoy an entertaining evening with Garifuna Drummers & Dancers.
Day 15 – After breakfast, transfer from Dangriga to the International Airport for your trip home.
